What is Chronic Fatigue?

As the name suggests, people with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) — also sometimes known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) — feel very tired and exhausted most of the time. The fatigue is not relieved by rest and is often much worse after physical or mental activity.

Symptoms

The main symptom of chronic fatigue syndrome is extreme, overwhelming tiredness or fatigue. The fatigue is both physical and mental, and does not improve with rest or sleep.

Other symptoms of CFS include:

  • headaches;
  • tender aching muscles;
  • joint pains;
  • sore throat;
  • enlarged, tender lymph nodes in the neck or armpits;
  • problems with memory and concentration;
  • extreme tiredness lasting 24 hours after physical or mental exertion;
  • mood changes;
  • nausea;
  • dizziness;
  • insomnia or other sleep disturbances; and
  • unrefreshing sleep.

Psychological problems such as anxiety and depression may also be associated with CFS.

Symptoms may come and go over the course of the illness, which can last months to years.

How I came through the other side

It’s time to live your life with energy and vitality!

When I was diagnosed with CFS in December 2013 I was in denial. I thought I was in control and it was really just stress and long work hours that were making me so tired.  I kept working 6 days a week and kept pushing my body although I was telling myself I was making changes!

A few months on and I finally listened to my body’s cry for help when I had an anxiety attack during a client meeting……that really freaked me out and I took notice.  After plenty of tears and hours of chatting to those close to me, I resigned from my job and decided my health was to important to ignore.

What was my life without it?

So for many months I have rested, rested some more, spoken to a range of medical professionals for help and answers, rested, looked at a range of natural therapies for more help and answers, rested, meditated/had massages/attended yoga classes, rested, watched hours of dvd’s, rested, attempted to keep up a social life, rested, pushed myself to work a few days of week to feel normal, rested, exercised to also feel normal although I had absolutely no energy and I slowly began to listen to what my body was wanting teach me.

The lightbulb moment was flashing bright. I finally understood and I began to see the changes and make progress to be the best version of me I had ever been.

I realised the importance of living a relaxed and effortless life and loving myself – mind, body and soul.

Sounds simple….right?!

Well, I took the scenic route and truthfully, I’m so glad I did.  I’m grateful that this has been my path in life as it’s taught me so much.  I wouldn’t be the wonderful, vibrant and extremely happy person I am today.  I want to share the knowledge I have gained that helped me heal my body to now live the life I have always dreamed of with passion and vitality.
